If you would have asked me which is more likely to come first – the coming of the Messiah or a comeback by the hip 90’s alt band Weezer – I would have said the former. After their last too uber flunkoids – the aptly named Maladroit and (the I tried to) Make Believe (it didn’t exist) I thought for sure they were doneso for good. But. Holy. Crap. Weezer is fucking back!
All i’ve seen is the new video which is an homage to the web stars we know and love/hate like Chris Crocker and the Mentos soda guys. I think it’s totally great. Although, even when Weezer’s been at its suckiest (think the patheticsville of We Are All On Drugs) they still seemed to pump out great video ideas (think Beverly Hills). So I still wasn’t convinced. But no, this time the song Pork and Beans (don’t let the title fool you) accompanying the video isn’t a total atrocity. It seems to me that the band is making a return back to their roots, the good old days when they rocked and didn’t whine and suck – supporting evidence of this is the self-titledness of the Album/The Red Album like back in the good old days of the Blue Album and The Green Album. Well I’m giving it a preemptive this is gonna be awesome…but we’ll see when it actually hits my ears.
